ACME Robotics Team Returns with Stephanie Lewis

Nevada City Rotary Rocks the RALLYE Awards!

Congratulations to all of our Club for stepping up to the challenges and opportunities of this past year and winning recognition for our accomplishments!  We have set an example for the other Clubs of the Area and District.

I am very proud to share that our Club was recognized as Club of Excellence, for our Core Values, and for all our Community Service projects:

Way to go Nevada City Rotarians!  Thanks for working and playing with me this past year as we charted new territory!

And not only did we score big in the RALLYE Awards, we also had the highest number of RALLYE participants this week in District 5190!!!  Very soon I will share with the Club our prize for the highest RALLYE attendance.

Join us next weekend as RALLYE continues with Leadership Learning Assembly on Saturday May 8, 8:30am-11:30am.

Registration for LLA is free; click to REGISTER.

2021-2022 Board Retreat

ACME Robotics Returns - Thursday 5:30pm Social!

We are looking forward to welcoming ACME Robotics back again this week!  The team will share what this year has been for them!  Always a very favorite meeting!

ACME Robotics is a community robotics team made up of highly motivated students from several different high schools in Nevada County. The team competes in the First Tech Challenge league of FIRST, an international youth robotics organization. Founded in 2014, ACME has had tremendous success over the years, including advancing to the regional championship every season of competing, and an unprecedented three straight qualifications to the FTC World Championships (and was the only rural Northern California team located outside of the Bay Area to move on to Worlds during each of those seasons!).

Even with the challenges of the last year, the team persevered and managed to design, program, and build a competitive robot almost completely remotely, while continuing to further their mission of spreading the reach of STEM in Nevada County.

Nevada County Vaccine Clinics need Volunteers

Our Club has always been a strong supporter of the End Polio Now campaign, and this past week Rotary has been celebrating World Immunization Week.  And now we have two additional opportunities to serve our community as the effort to get COVID immunizations to everybody in the County is moving forward.

1)  We partnered with Nevada County Public Health for the Flu Clinic last Fall and volunteered to support COVID clinics when needed... here is a request from Kim Blix:

Our vaccine clinic at Whispering Pines is in need of volunteers starting week of May 11. I am wondering if you might have some folks from Rotary who are available and interested in the below position:

  • Friendly personalities needed to be clinic “Patient Runners”
  • Four hour shifts either 8:30-12:30 or 12:30-4:30, Monday-Friday
  • Walking many miles a day within our clinic building escorting patients from registration to exam room
  • Vaccinated individuals preferred (we can vaccinate them if necessary)
  • Registration in DHV required
  • Start date as soon as possible

If you have anyone who might be interested, please have them reach out to our clinic manager, Donna Tully, at 707-933-6664.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support of Public Health!!

2) Doug McDonald also serves on the Board of Western Sierra Medical Clinic (WSMC) along with other Area 4 & 5 Rotarians.  They are looking for volunteers on May 22 and June 5 at the new clinic on Old Tunnel Road off Brunswick in Grass Valley.  Contact Polly Conley at WSMC 530-274-9762 x159 if you are interested and available for one of those dates.

Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!

Thank you Treasurer Tom Ryan for your ongoing diligence with our finances.  And thank you Club members for following the Four Way Test with your pledges to our Club!  If you have questions, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.

Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary.  They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom.  Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond.  Thanks for sharing you!
