PLEASE NOTE - Due to snow, Sunday's Young Musicians Concert has been canceled.

Baraka Anderson, a 10th grader at Sierra Academy (SAEL) is the Rotary winner of the $200 first prize. For his video entry, he played Shumann’s quite difficult piece “Fantasiestucke.”

For this virtual contest conducted jointly by Area 4 Rotary and Music in the Mountains, all entries were judged by professional musicians, and a critique of each performance has been sent to all who competed.

A live Showcase Concert had been planned—the first post pandemic—but had to be cancelled twice because of our epic snowstorm and further weather concerns. And also because the young musician winners were not all available for later dates.

Baraka will compete at the D5190 music competition April 29 at Harrah’s in Stateline, Nevada. You can watch his video entry at the Baraka Anderson performance.

A big thank you to Gayle Denney who is our Club and Area Rotary representative coordinating with Music in the Mountains.

In 2023, Music in the Mountains and area Rotary clubs collaborated again to conduct their two competitions jointly as the Rotary/Music in the Mountains Young Musicians Competition (YMC)!

Although the young musicians with whom Baraka competed were in the 9th to 12th grades, younger musicians competed in other divisions beginning with 3rd graders.

The Competition took place via submitted video performances which were professionally judged for cash prizes.  Although the two competitions were conducted jointly, there are separate qualifications and awards for the Music in the Mountains competitors and the Rotary competitors.

One competitor will also go on to the Rotary District 5190 Conference competition April 29, 2023,
