Western Nevada County student on the "Flying Squirrel"

Rotary District 5190 Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership (REGL) training was held over two weekends, September 15-17 and September 22-24 at the Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, CA.  Western Nevada County was well represented by teams from Chicago Park, Lyman Gilmore, Mt St Mary’s, Ready Springs and Seven Hills.  Students participated in a variety of physical, mental and emotional challenges to get to know each other, support each other, work as a team and make commitments to leadership at their schools and in their communities.

A highlight of the program was the high ropes course.  Students learned that “courage” is a combination of being brave and being afraid.  Each team was supported by a high school RYLA graduate and an adult mentor.  Students were transformed through the experience.

A big thank you to Louise Johnson, Nevada City Rotary and Melissa Rosprim, Penn Valley volunteer for serving as Adult Mentors.
