At Bright Futures for Youth (BFFY)

Nevada City Rotary is proud to support the NEO Youth Center being built in the Litton Building. Participating in the Area 4 District Grant, Club members were eager to participate in hands-on projects related to the new center. BFFY asked if we would construct the heavy cedar pergola planned for the outdoor patio area. So a team of Nevada City Rotarians jumped in. A special thank you to Tom R, Tom M, and Cathy for laboring in the heat to complete the construction and spreading of decomposed granite!

Construction assembly of the outdoor pergola was completed in early July. NEO students met with Tom Milam, Tom Ryan, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes and Walt Stickel to document the "opening" of the pergola.

To set up for construction, Tom R, Tom M, and Cathy with her grandson Aidan took on transferring the pergola materials that had been stored in Penn Valley to the Litton building. They then created a foundation frame to secure the structure. Robin and Walt helped the team assemble and construct the pergola. Hansen Brothers delivered decomposed granite for the base and the team put the finishing touches around the pergola.

Area 4 District Grant for NEO Youth Center Cafe
Four local Rotary Clubs are proud to partner with Bright Futures for Youth (BFFY) to build what will be called the Rotary Café in the new NEO Youth Center. The Grass Valley, 49er Breakfast, Grass Valley South, and Nevada City Rotary Clubs each contributed $2,500. District 5190 matched the $10,000 Club balance with a $12,500 grant plus almost $2,500 in District Bonus Dollar contributions for a total grant of $25,000 (with some rounding).

In addition to the District Grant, Grass Valley Rotary contributed $15,000 in honor of late Club member Mike Johnson. The Clubs presented a check representing the $40,000 donation to Executive Director Jennifer Singer and NEO Program Director Halli Ellis-Edwards at Grass Valley Rotary's regular meeting on Monday January 23, 2023.
