Generosity is a word that our club lives. Thank you for the generosity you are showing to our community with our bell ringing, Victorian Christmas monitoring, gift giving to those in need, contributing through The Rotary Foundation, and bringing smiles to our “under-the-weather” club members. You are all amazing!
Thank you, Tally, for bringing a smile to everyone’s face as you spoke of your life, career path, and family. We are so happy to get to know you better and are happy to have you as one of our members. While your job responsibilities will take you away from us for a while, know that we are thinking of you. Whenever you feel the need to have like-minded folks to talk to – we are here. Good luck with all the training you are taking on.

Join us Saturday after Thanksgiving & Black Friday as we ramble up Sugarloaf Mountain in Nevada City. We will meet at the Rood Center by the solar covered parking near Wayne Brown jail for a fun morning hike. Friends and family are welcome.

Our community's annual Caring and Sharing tree will be up in the lobby of the Grass Valley Police Department right after Thanksgiving. Our Club is inviting members to drop by the GV Police and pick a tag for a child in need! The tree will be easy to find and a quick drop in, choose a child or multiple children, and enjoy a shopping spree to bring special joy this holiday season.
Bring your gifts to our Holiday Party on December 7 and Judy Soldavini and George will deliver them to the GV Police Department for our Club. Additional gift cards are welcome!
Celebrate Victorian Christmas with Nevada City Rotary and Police Department
The holidays are fast approaching, and with them comes a unique, FUN opportunity for Community Service. Chief Dan Foss, our Community Services Director has asked the Rotary Club of Nevada City to help at the Victorian Christmas Events.
Dates and Time - Shifts are 2 -2.5 hrs each
Sunday afternoons: Dec. 3, 10, 17 from 1:00-3:30 and 3:30-6:00
Wednesday evenings: December 6 and 13 from 4:30-6:30 and 6:30-9:00.
Rotarians will go out in groups of two, with specially made Rotary safety vests, to mingle with the crowds and give information, if asked, on such things as where the bathrooms are, etc. Also, they will serve as additional eyes/ears for the Police Department and report back to the PD any problems they may see arising. We will not be handling problems ourselves! There will be a short 20-minute orientation for each shift and Rotarians are welcome to go back to City Hall to warm up, eat cookies and rest, as needed.
Nevada City Rotary was proud to present the new Interact Club at Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning (SAEL) with their Club Charter and 18 individual Member certificates. Cathy, Carolyn, Tom Ryan, Dennis, Walt and Robin participated in an all school assembly on Friday, November 17. Rotarians and Faculty Advisor Byron Bird shared with the school who Rotary — and more specifically the SAEL Interact Club — is.
Byron is Science Teacher at SAEL and an Interact alum.
At the Area 4 Foundation Recognition Event, our Club Foundation Chair Lynda Guthrie recognized our most recent Paul Harris Fellow Awardees: Jim Bair (new), Nicole Dillard (+3), Dennis Geare (+4), Tom Milam (+3) and Chris Newsom (+5).
The program showcased selected international projects led by the Rotary Clubs of Nevada City and Grass Valley South. Lynda presented the inspiring story of our Menstrual Hygiene Kit Project. Carolyn presented the successful ongoing evolution of our partnership with Los Barriles Rotary and the East Cape Health Clinic since Spring 2015.
Cathy and Carolyn accepted banners recognizing our Club’s success with Polio Plus and EREY contributions in 2020-21 from DG Anita and 2022-23 from DG Jeff.
This global day of generosity is an opportunity for all members to make a big impact, with a gift of any size that supports projects you’re passionate about.
Rotary has a long tradition of bell ringing with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaignthrough the holidays each year throughout the US and beyond.
Contact Walt Stickel if you would like to join a team on Saturday December 9. Nevada City Rotary will be ringing in front of SPD Nevada City from 10 am - 6pm. If not ringing, drop by with a few coins or bills and share the cheer and hope as we ring to raise money to support our local community!
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting will be December 11 at 4:00pm via Zoom.
