At our lunch meeting on May 8 at Bodhi-Hive we got to hear the report from our Los Barriles team. Our group, organized by International Service Director, Kelly Babinaeu and included Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, Chris Newsom, Paul and Sonya Boch, Area Governor Marcia Salter (Grass Valley Club) and Dave from Reno Sunrise. The project has been going on for 10 years in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Los Barriles and the East Cape Health Center.
During our first trip, Char Wegner of the Rotary Club of Los Barriles cut the ribbon to the new Health Center. Since that time the center has added an Emergency Room, Family Medicine, Lab Testing and Dentistry. Our group assisted in heath screenings in 4 schools and screened over 600 students. The screenings included height and weight, eye exams, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, dental screenings and a brief medical exam. Each student got to take home a dental goodie bag and the learned how to floss. Medical concerns uncovered in the screenings will be followed up from the clinic. Kelly gave us many reasons to consider going on this trip next year. Big thanks to our team and to Kelly for her leadership.

During Thursday’s meeting several awards were presented. PE Pearce Boyer was presented his 3rd PHF and Kelly was presented with her first Paul Harris Award and her Paul Harris Society Certificate. Top Gun Conference participants reported on how much fun DG Dennis’ conference. District SAA Chair Cathy also presented Tom with her SAA Jumping In With Both Feet Award for his continuous support throughout the conference.
