Many thanks to those of you who came out to our social to share your ideas on what our club should “Start, Stop, Continue and Fix.” It was wonderful seeing and hearing all of the energy in the room. By far the “Continue” chart had the most items on it. And, since different club members shared many different ideas, I think we all learned new things about both our the Rotary Club of Nevada City and Rotary International. I’ll be compiling and sharing the data, along with our club membership survey results, with you in the coming weeks as we decide next steps for our club.
This week, please join me in giving a great big shout out to our Environmental Sustainability team for the stretchable plastic recycling project. Rotary Rob had a chance to go to Briar Patch and check out the new Trex bench that has been placed there. Thanks to Tom R. for installing it at Briar Patch. Rotary Rob also had a chance to check out the collection bin and noticed that it is getting full again.
Our dedicated club members including Chris, Tom R., Nancy, Jim, Cathy, Judy and Robin have reached our capacity to collect and recycle the plastic. Committee chair Chris has been meeting regularly with a team from Nevada County and WM (formerly Waste Management) to find new ways to collaborate to keep these plastics out of the land fill and into benches and other construction materials. Jeff and I just got a new fire resistant Trex deck and are loving it!
