I hope you all had a fun, safe and happy Halloween and enjoyed our bye week. Oops, our dark week; my mind is too much on football these days. As we enter the holiday season our minds turn to gratitude and helping. Among the many things I have to be grateful for, certainly the friends and members of the Nevada City Rotary are among the top! I wish joy and blessings upon you all.

As always, we love giving gifts to our youth, especially those in need, during the holiday season. This year we are partnering with Rotary Club of Grass Valley South to collect items for the Nevada County Toy Run on December 14. We are focusing on collecting items for “Teens and Tweens.” Hereis a list of desired items. Gift cards are always a great idea. If you bring your items to a November meeting, I will be sure to get them to the GV South Club for delivery. Again, this year we have an opportunity to Ring Bells for the Salvation Army. Rotarian Walt Stickel is heading up this effort. Stay tuned for more details.
Finally, Interfaith Food Ministries has a variety of needs where volunteers may become involved. Here is a list of those opportunities.
We’re looking forward to our next social event on November 7 at 5:30 PM at Round Table Pizza. Steven Holt will share his craft talk. We’ll also be auctioning off a gift basket that was donated back to us from a PAWS and a Cause winner. On November 14 we’ll be back at the Bohdi Hive. Our guest speaker will be Judy East from the Sierra College Foundation.

A great opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the District and to learn from each other in these interactive peer-to-peer sessions. Something for everyone including Membership, Foundation, and Service committees.
The holidays are fast approaching, and with them comes a unique opportunity for Community Service. We did such a good job last year, our Community Services Director (Chief Dan Foss) has once again asked the Rotary Club of Nevada City to help at the Victorian ChristmasEvents.
The dates/times are Sunday afternoons, Dec. 8, 15, and 22 from 1:00-3:30pm and 3:30-6:00pm, and Wednesday evenings, December 11 and 18 from 4:30-6:30pm and 6:30-9:00pm. Rotarians typically go out in groups of two, with special NCPD safety vests, to mingle with the crowds and give information, if asked, on such things as where the bathrooms are, etc. Also, we serve as additional eyes/ears for the Police Department but we do not handle problems ourselves! There will be a short 10-minute orientation for each shift and Rotarians are welcome to return to City Hall to warm up, eat cookies, and rest, as needed. Cathy Wilcox-Barnes will be circulating a signup sheet at the meetings leading up to the event(s) or you can sign up at Victorian Christmas 2024 Sign Up.
The Rotary Peace Conference 2025 is the ultimate gathering of visionaries and change-makers from diverse fields coming together to revolutionize the world. The 2025 (regional) Rotary World Peace Conference will be held in Rohnert Park, CA from January 24-26 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. This isn't just any conference; it's a catalyst for global change, where ideas turn into action and dreams into reality.
Registration for the event is now open. Given that Rotarians from 8 different districts have been invited, you will want to register (and make your hotel reservation) early.
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our November 11 meeting is at 5:30pmto better accommodate schedules among our new board. It will be via Zoom with President Louise.
