Dear Nevada City Rotarians and Friends,

The Nevada City Rotary Club had its Annual Meeting on December 19, 2024 at our regular social meeting at 5:30 PM at Round Table Pizza in Grass Valley. Please welcome our new executive officers for Rotary Year 25-26: Pearce Boyer, President; Robin Milam, Secretary; Tom Ryan, Treasurer; and Louise Johnson, Past President. Miles Adler will serve as Sergeant at Arms. It brings me great joy to go into the second half of my Rotary Year with such a strong team to hand the reins to come June 30, 2025. We also had updates on our venue, club finances and progress towards our Club’s Rotary International goals. Our Nevada City Rotary Foundation is the lead non-profit to bring the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to Nevada County.

In the particular tradition which I was raised this is the time of year where we see, “Peace on Earth” as a wish. One of the reasons I love Rotary so much is the commitment to advancing the goal of peace. The front page of the Rotary International website states, “For more than a century, we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents. We champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, help people get access to clean water and sanitation, and fight disease. Our newest cause is to protect our planet and its resources.” Through Peace Fellowships to our upcoming Peace Conference in Rohnert Park there are so many ways that Rotary works towards that goal. See Rotary Peace Conference 2025.

We will be dark on December 26 as we celebrate the holidays with family and friends. We’ll be back for our social on January 2 at 5:30 PM at Round Table Pizza when we will hear Steven Holt’s craft talk. Then, we have a special treat for our meeting at 12:15 PM on January 9 when Sandra Rockman and Kimberly Ewing will engage us in Improvisation!

May you find love and peace during this season.

Your President,

Louise
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is coming to Nevada County

Give a gift that truly keeps on giving ~ fostering literacy among Nevada County’s youngest residents!

Nevada City Rotary is proud to launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Nevada County in the coming months. “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners.” Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 to foster a love of reading among her county’s young children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. Through the Imagination Library, Parton’s vision has expanded across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Republic of Ireland, and now to our own Nevada County!

Andrea Mason, Co-Chair for our Youth Services Committee, shares a passion for literacy. When she learned that our county did not have an active program, Andrea was inspired to bring the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program to Nevada County for the 4,200 children ages 0-5 in our community. The Rotary Club of Nevada City Foundation has been certified by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to serve as the Local Program Partner for Nevada County. Local First Five and other County education partners are aligned to launch the program within our community in 2025.

Your donation may be tax deductible! The Rotary Club of Nevada City Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. Please consult with your tax advisor if you have questions.

You too can help bring this special gift to the young children across our county. Donate Now to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to Nevada County.
