Dear Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

We were back at Bodhi-Hive on November 14 for our second lunch meeting there. Our guest speaker was Judy East, Chair of the Nevada County Campus of the Sierra College Foundation. She gave us an overview of the Sierra College Foundation in general and then some specifics about their work here on the Nevada County Campus. The Sierra College Foundation supports students through an extensive scholarship program, a food pantry, an emergency fund for students, and housing assistance for students. They have helped the Natural History Museum on the Rocklin campus. Recently they have received a $100,000 grant from the Bosch Community Fund for Career Technical Pathways to support students with competitions, certification fees, software and equipment.

Here on our beautiful Nevada County Campus they have all of the above as well as support of special programs. Among those programs are the monthly Community Forums which are held on the third Friday of each month. Coming up on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 AM the forum features NID General Manager, Jennifer Hanson, speaking on, “How Secure is our Water Supply?” The event is free, open to the public, with free parking.  I go to the forum almost every month and they are always informative and
relevant. Our program chairs spoke with Judy about arranging a field trip to our beautiful Nevada County Campus. Stay tuned for more information!
  Pop Quiz:

There’s still time to bring gifts for the Toy Run to be held on December 14 this year.  Grass Valley South is heading up the drive and is focusing on teens and tweens but all gifts will be gratefully accepted.  Just bring them to any meeting and I will get them to our contact person at the GV South Club.

We’re looking forward to hearing Andrea Mason’s Craft Talk at our social on November 21. Then, we’ll be dark for Thanksgiving on November 28. We’ll be having Friar Tuck’s all to ourselves for our Holiday Party on December 2 beginning with a social hour at 5:00 and dinner at 6:00. Don’t forget to send in your RSVP and choice of entrée! What fun do Cathy and Judy have planned for us? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Grateful for all of you!
Your President,

Louise
