Thank you to Chief Dan Foss for his presentation on the POST program. Our Club is sponsoring scholarships for members of NCPD to further their training as peace officers. Thank you, Chief Dan, and your officers for all you do for our community. Your presentation gave us a great deal to think about in how we interact with people we feel may not be friendly.
Our lunch meeting this week will feature Judge Kelly Babineau on the state of our court system.
Thank you to so many of you who have been taking the time to give back to our own community as well as giving to fight polio around the world. Congratulations to Nancy (and Louise) for getting Girls Who Code started again at 7-Hills!
If you missed the social Thursday and would like to attend the upcoming Rotary Foundation Area 4 Event Sunday, Nov 19th, please chat with Lynda to sign up. Check below for more information.

Celebrate Victorian Christmas with Nevada City Rotary and Police Department
The holidays are fast approaching, and with them comes a unique, FUN opportunity for Community Service. Chief Dan Foss, our Community Services Director has asked the Rotary Club of Nevada City to help at the Victorian Christmas Events.
Dates and Time - Shifts are 2 -2.5 hrs each
Sunday afternoons: Dec. 3, 10, 17 from 1:00-3:30 and 3:30-6:00
Wednesday evenings: December 6 and 13 from 4:30-6:30 and 6:30-9:00.
Rotarians will go out in groups of two, with specially made Rotary safety vests, to mingle with the crowds and give information, if asked, on such things as where the bathrooms are, etc. Also, they will serve as additional eyes/ears for the Police Department and report back to the PD any problems they may see arising. We will not be handling problems ourselves! There will be a short 20-minute orientation for each shift and Rotarians are welcome to go back to City Hall to warm up, eat cookies and rest, as needed.
Cathy Wilcox-Barnes will be circulating a signup sheet at the meetings leading up to the event(s). If you are interested, please make sure to sign up and, if you aren’t at a meeting and want the opportunity to serve, contact Cathy (2cwb@sbcglobal.net) or (530) 263-2496) and she’ll add you to the list. Thank you in advance for being Rotarians in Action!
Celebrate with us as we acknowledge our collective local and global contributions through The Rotary Foundation. The Area Rotary Foundation recognition event will showcase not only those Rotarians that have contributed to the foundation but also some of the international projects our local clubs have worked on over the last few years, with funding from The Rotary Foundation.

Nevada City Rotarian Nancy Kemp and Seven Hills Middle SchoolTeacher Leslie May held an orientation for the students and parents of the 2023-24 members of the Girls Who Code Club on October 24, 2023 at Seven Hills.
Twelve girls, grades 6 - 8, are signed up for the club. They will learn how to code in several computer languages and be inspired by the stories of successful women in the tech industry. They will learn to support each other and work as a team.
At the orientation the girls were able to register their membership on the national Girls Who Code website, see some of the upcoming programing tasks, play an icebreaker game for team building and get a copy of the schedule. Classes will be on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 5:00 at the library at Seven Hills and Nancy is looking for Rotarians to bring snacks each week. Let Nancy know if you are able to help.
Big thanks to Nancy Kemp and Leslie May for their hard work and support of this project.
