Greetings members and friends,

This has been a very active Earth Month, and has given us a chance to focus on Rotary’s newest Area of Focus:  Sustaining the Environment!

On Apr. 15, Club members offered the community our second Lithium Battery Recycling event, giving donors the chance to re-purpose their devices into new electric batteries. On Apr. 20, we enjoyed a delicious plant-based pot-luck dinner, and I was amazed at the unique, interesting and DELICIOUS dishes that everyone brought.  (An added bonus to the potluck: we got to meet four delightful young members of our Interact Club at SAEL).

On Apr 21 morning, I represented our club at a table at BriarPatch Coop, to inform shoppers about details of our TREX stretchable plastic recycling program; many attendees thanked me for our club’s efforts in that area. Finally, by the time you read this, the EARTH FEST will have happened on Apr. 23 in Nevada City, organized by our member Lynn Skrukrud who is the Events Coordinator of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce.

Just as we’ve all had to do “clean-up” and re-arranging of schedules following the severe storms, our Rotary Cub is also doing a little adapting.  As you will read below, the Area 4 Community Awards night has been rescheduled to Wednesday May 10, at the Miners Foundry in NC, from 5:30-7pm and will include hearty appetizers. Also below are details on our re-scheduled Foundation Dinner.

We’re looking forward to our second meeting at TJ’s Roadhouse this Thursday. We are happy to announce that our speaker will be Jenny Darlington-Person, E.D. of Music in the Mountains, one of our premier music organizations in the foothills. Jenny will give us a peek at their signature Summer Fest which will be happening again this June. The following week on May 4, we will have our first field trip of the season. Karen McDonald will host us for a visit at Mt. St. Mary’s Academy, where she teaches.  Field trips are always fun, so watch for more details!

Enjoy the beautiful awakening of the earth all around us…hard to believe Nevada County was declared a disaster area just 6 weeks ago, isn’t it?

Don't forget, please see this week's menu options and RSVP by Wednesday morning.

Enjoy the springtime!

Chris (and Carolyn)

Area 4 Foundation Dinner June 12, 2023
A favorite annual tradition among the five Rotary Clubs of District 5190 Area 4 is a joint celebration of The Rotary Foundation and our collective project accomplishments. It is also an opportunity to celebrate and honor those who through their generosity have achieved Paul Harris Fellow levels.

Grass Valley Rotary will be hosting a simplified version of the Foundation Recognition Dinner on Monday June 12th at the Wild Eye Pub in Grass Valley. The event is free to attend and attendees can order directly off the Wild Eye Pub regular menu and pay the restaurant directly.  Reservations are requested by June 7th.

Nevada City Rotary looks forward to celebrating our Paul Harris Fellows and our newest Global Scholar Wrenn Cleary. Watch for more details.
