Dear Nevada City Rotarians and Friends,

In the spirit of the original Rotarians we are “rotating” meetings because we lost Creekside which was our regular lunch meeting spot. On Thursday October 24 we met at the new Bhodi Hive which is in the old Grass Valley Group buildings on Providence Mine Rd. We were able to have a sandwich lunch from SPD and take a tour of this new “coworking space” for our community.

Since this was our last October meeting it’s time to start thinking about November which is The Rotary Foundation month. There are three main funds in the Rotary International foundation. The permanent fund is an endowment fund used mostly for global projects. The Polio Plus Fund is targeted to the worldwide eradication of polio. Thank you to those of you who donated to The Rotary Foundation here. You helped us meet our club’s Polio Plus goal for Rotary Year 24-25 already!

The Rotary Foundation fund that has the most impact on our local work is the Annual Fund. Donations are held for 3 years by Rotary International to accrue interest and then are returned to the Districts to disburse in the form of District Matching Grants. Donations to the Annual Fund are the ones that count toward club status of, “Every Rotarian Every Year” which gives us an extra bonus on the District Matching Grants. To achieve EREY we need each Rotarian to donate at least $25 to the Annual Fund with an overall per capita giving of $100 per member. We didn’t meet this goal last year so don’t qualify for the bonus this year. Our club also has the Rotary Club of Nevada City Foundation, our own Foundation which I’ll share more about later. So, as you plan your end-of-year giving for tax purposed please consider making your donation to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund.

We’re spooky dark on Thursday October 31, Halloween. Have a wonderful holiday doing your own favorite Halloween activity. Then on November 7 we’ll be back at Round Table Pizza in Grass Valley where Steven Holt will share his craft talk. Then we’re rotating for our November 14 lunch meeting so pay attention to the Rotario and read your email!
