Dear Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

The Holiday Party on December 2 was a wonderful time enjoyed by all who were able to be there. I am so happy that Rotary Rob had special friends to take care of him so that he could attend. Click the photo for slide show from the event. Big thanks to Cathy and Judy for their wonderful planning and hosting the party! Thanks also to Ken at Friar Tuck’s for opening for our private party. You can express your appreciation by posting a review on Friar Tuck’s Facebook page.

Also, on December 2 we learned that our Area 4 Multi-Club grant for the Musical Instrument Donation and Repair Fund has been approved by the District 5190 grants team and funding is on the way. The need for this project arose from the 2024 Area 4 Music Contest. There were few participants and it became clear that our local middle schools are in need of instruments and instrument repair so that more students can participate in music. In my experience, students are reluctant to try an instrument for the first time in high school so middle school music is absolutely essential. This project will allow us to collect donations of unused instruments from the community and fund repairs of instruments already owned by the schools. Start looking in your closets, garages and attics for those instruments. We’ll let you know when and where the donation days will take place.

It's a big day for our club at our lunch meeting on December 12 at 12:15 at the Bodhi-Hive. We get to welcome District Governor Dennis Geare home to his home club, the Nevada City Rotary Club. He has traveled far and wide through the geographically vast District 5190 visiting all 61 clubs. Welcome Home Dennis! Please RSVP with your lunch order by 10am Wednesday. Board members will meet with DG Dennis at 10:45am.

Then we’ll have our annual meeting at our social on December 19 at 5:30 at Round Table Pizza. Then we’ll be dark for more holiday celebrations with family and friends. We’ll regather at Round Table on January 2 for our social.

In the meanwhile Renegade Rotary Rob is along for the ride looking for our president!

Love and cheer to all!

Your President,

Louise

Peter Newsom awarded PHF
Peter Newsom was truly a force that added to the success of our Upscale Resale Fundraiser last Spring. He provided heavy lifting -- literally and figuratively -- during every phase including collection, sorting, loading, setup, then tear down and reloading.

Nevada City Rotary was proud to present Peter with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his “Service Above Self”. Mom Chris presented the award to Peter with their family last week in Los Angeles.

Chris explained what a Paul Harris Fellow award is and that it is the best means of saying thank you from a Rotary Club. She presented Peter with his pin and award paper, and he seemed really very pleased! He said he was quite honored, and that it had been a real pleasure working with all of her Rotary friends. Chris also reminded Peter that 49er Breakfast Club presented his dad Bill with a Paul Harris fellowship in 2014, so he was pleased that they are both now within the Rotary circle.
