Hello Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

At our lunch meeting on July 25 we had David West, Nevada County Veterans’ Services Officer, speak to us. He gave a heartfelt presentation about the challenges and needs of our veteran population. We learned about how the Veterans’ Services Office connects veterans with their benefits and other community resources, plans to address homelessness with Nevada County veterans and recent changes in the federal Veterans’ Administration.

As July turns to August, it is a great time to think about including Rotary in your travel plans for 2024-25. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to join other club members for our annual service project helping with health screenings in Los Barriles, Mexico.

Additionally for our club, Priority 1, is to mark your calendars and consider attending the District 5190 Top Gun District Conference on May 1 – 3, 2025 in Fallon, NV.  Let’s have as many of us as possible on hand to celebrate Dennis Geare’s Year as District Governor!

If a mild winter weekend in beautiful Sonoma County appeals to you, we have a great opportunity to attend a Rotary World Peace conference on January 24-26, 2025 in Rohnert Park, CA.  Here’s a link to learn more. Rotary World Peace Conference 2025. Registration isn’t open yet but I have my hotel reservations at a discount because they have not sold the room block yet.

Finally, several of us from Area 4 already have our hotel reservations for the International Rotary Convention on June 21-25, 2025 in Calgary.  Here’s another link. RI Calgary Convention 2025. Will it be fun?  Yes, to all of the above!

Next week at our social at Round Table on August 1, I will be gathering input in our next phase of club assessment with a process for small group discussion around what we should (1) Continue, (2) Start, (3) Stop and (4) Fix.  Put your thinking caps on and come prepared to share your views.  I will need 42 minutes and 26 seconds for the activity so please come early to order your dinner. Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill out the survey. Will it be fun? Yes!

Your President,

Louise

2024 National Night Out in Nevada City
This year’s Kids Color Fun Run comes to Nevada City’s Pioneer Park on Tuesday August 6. Last year our local law enforcement agencies showed they know how to throw a fabulous community party!

NCPD Chief Dan Foss and Nevada City Police Department (NCPD) will be firing up their awesome new grill and are recruiting Nevada City Rotarians to assist with cooking and distributing all sorts of goodies to kids and friends. We’ll be delighting kids with NCPD’s cardboard police cars and mini handcuffs and other big hitters. And for a really fun time, prepare to join in on the Run of the Colors on behalf of Nevada City Police and Nevada City Rotary.

CLICK TO VOLUNTEER AUGUST 6!   Fun and games in Pioneer Park from 6-7:30pm.
