We had loads of fun at our lunch meeting on January 9 at Bhodi-Hive. Sandra Rockman and Kimberly Ewing led us in an Improv workshop. We learned some Improv techniques like, “Say Yes, And,” “Just Show Up,” and “Take Care of Each Other.” They recommended some books including Alan Alda’s “If I Understood You, Would I have this look on my face?” We learned to us motion, body language and sound. Then we go to work in pairs with, “Yes And.” Finally, groups of three gave us good advice, bad advice and even worse advice. We had a fabulous time!
Whenever disaster strikes, Rotarians everywhere jump into action. Rotary Districts 5280 (Pasadena > LA west) and 5300 (Altadena > East) is leading the charge for wildfire relief in Southern California. The Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire and the Hurst Fire are in these districts. District Governor Albert Hernandez has outlined a three-prong response that includes a disaster relief fund, a resource directory and volunteer opportunities. You can read his message and learn more atD5280's Wildfire Disaster Relief and also D5300's Wildfire Disaster Relief. Since wildfire is also such a concern here where we live, Walt sent us this “10 Minute Drill,” with good advice for our own preparedness. Thanks Walt!
Also last week former President Jimmy Carter was laid to rest. Both Rotary and the Carter Center are peace and conflict resolution advocates. On January 15 Rotary will host a Rotary/Carter School mega-meeting online to honor the legacy of President Carter. To learn more about the collaboration, you can read about it at Rotary-Carter School Collaboration for Peace.

Give a gift that truly keeps on giving ~ fostering literacy among Nevada County’s youngest residents!
Nevada City Rotary is proud to launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Nevada County in the coming months. “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners.” Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 to foster a love of reading among her county’s young children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. Through the Imagination Library, Parton’s vision has expanded across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Republic of Ireland, and now to our own Nevada County!
