I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving time. There were many activities to take part in over the weekend – hiking, shopping, eating, volunteering, and relaxing. Since this week is the fifth Thursday of the month, we will not meet. Hope you can make it another week without seeing each other, you should know that we hold each other in our good thoughts. And you can join our Rambling Rotarians hiking Round Mountain to Edwards Crossing on Saturday!
Thanks, and congratulations to Carolyn and Lynda on their presentations at the Area 4 Foundation Gathering. I keep hearing the buzz about the wonderful job you both did.
Remember to sign up for the Club’s Holiday Party dinner at TJ’s on Thursday, Dec 7th. If you have time, stop by the Grass Valley Police Department, and pick up a tag for a deserving young community member. You can shop and wrap your gift, then bring it to the Holiday Party. Judy and George will serve as our Santa delivery to the Police Department. You will have made someone smile on Christmas Day.
I’m looking forward to hearing stories from the Ramblers hike day,Victorian Christmas volunteering, and how folks are planning on keeping warm as they bell ring for the Salvation Army.
Remember, your smile can change another person’s day. Keep smiling!
It's that time of year again! The Caring and Sharing tree is up in the lobby of the Grass Valley Police Department with tags for holiday gifts to cheer local children! More tags will be added daily! Our Club is inviting members to drop by the GV Police and pick a tag for a child in need! The tree will be easy to find and a quick drop in. Choose a child or multiple children, and enjoy a shopping spree to bring special joy this holiday season. GVPD is open weekdays 8am-5pm.
Bring your gifts to our Holiday Party on December 7 and Judy Soldavini and George will deliver them to the GV Police Department for our Club. Additional gift cards are welcome!

Nine Rotarians (and family members) braved a cold morning as we hiked to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday, November 25th. We had a great hike and were rewarded with awesome views of Nevada City and the Yuba River Canyon, not to mention the fun fellowship. With Cathy at the lead, respits were filled with all sorts of historical tidbits about Sugarloaf, Nevada City, hydraulic mining and more! Along the way we scouted potential locations for our second Trex bench. After snacks and a few pictures at the top, we were back to our cars before noon.
Next Hike: Saturday December 2, 2023 Round Mountain to Edwards Crossing
Our next hike is planned for Saturday, December 2, 2023. Weather permitting, we will be doing a shuttle hike from Round Mountain to Edwards Crossing (approximately 7-8 miles). If you would like to join us, we will meet at the Rood Center parking lot (yes, this time we won’t change meet-up spots) at 8:00 a.m. and carpool to Edwards to drop a car and then on to the trailhead at Round Mountain for a 9:00 a.m. (or earlier) departure. Make sure you bring water, a snack and lunch to enjoy along the way. This is a beautiful hike through forests of oak, pine and madrone and along the river canyon to Edwards. If you want to join us or have any questions, please contact Cathy Wilcox-Barnes (263-2496 or 2cwb@sbcglobal.net).
Rotary has a long tradition of bell ringing with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaignthrough the holidays each year throughout the US and beyond. Contact Walt Stickel if you would like to join a team on Saturday December 9. Nevada City Rotary will be ringing in front of SPD Nevada City from 10 am - 6pm. If not ringing, drop by with a few coins or bills and share the cheer and hope as we ring to raise money to support our local community!
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting will be December 11 at 4:00pm via Zoom.
Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
