We gathered for our social on November 21 where we shared the joy of Andrea Mason’s craft talk. We also had the chance to honor Peter Newsom with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his “Service Above Self” helping with the heavy lifting throughout our Upscale Resale fundraiser last spring. Mom Chris will present the award to Peter with family in LA over the holidays.
As we look forward to District Governor Dennis Geare coming home to our club in December it’s worth thinking about just how very large and vast Rotary International is. Over 1.9 million Rotarians belong to more than 45,000 Rotary Clubs in the world. Rotary International is divided into 500 districts. Each district has 45-60 clubs and is led by a District Governor (DG).
Our District 5190 is one of the largest Rotary Districts in the world, covering approximately 96,000 square miles. District 5190 has 61 clubs and is divided into 13 geographic areas. Area 4 includes the 5 Western Nevada County Clubs: Grass Valley, Grass Valley South, Nevada City, 49er Breakfast Club of Nevada City and Penn Valley. Our locale is led by Area 4 Governor, Marcia Salter, of the Grass Valley Club. It is truly amazing to be part of such a large international organization which truly are, “People of Action.”
We’re dark this week as we enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday with our friends and families. We’re looking forward to our Holiday Party on Monday, December 2 at Friar Tuck’s in downtown Nevada City. If you haven’t already done so, please RSVP and choose your entrée. It’s sure to be a fun time.
On December 12 we’ll be back at Bhodi-Hive to welcome home DG Dennis Geare for the last of his 61 club visits! Then, mark your calendars for our social on December 19 for our all-important annual meeting.
Nevada City Rotary has a tradition of celebrating together with an annual Holiday Dinner. Join us Monday, December 2 for an exclusive Nevada City Rotaryand guests only dinner at Friar Tucks at 111 N Pine St. Appetizers will be served during our welcome reception from 5-6pm. Dinner will be served at 6pm followed by a fun program.
Dinner includes salad, entrée plate, dessert, unlimited soft drinks, iced tea, water and coffee. Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase during the reception and dinner.
Please make your reservation and indicate your meal choice. Should you need to cancel, please do so well in advance to avoid responsibility of paying for a reserved meal.
The holidays are fast approaching, and with them comes a unique opportunity for Community Service. We did such a good job last year, our Community Services Director (Chief Dan Foss) has once again asked the Rotary Club of Nevada City to help at the Victorian ChristmasEvents.
