On Thursday of last week, I felt like the only leg left standing on our Three-Legged Stool of Co-Presidents, what with Cathy off hiking and Doug (and Dennis) visiting the Fernley Rotary Club and then the City of Fallon scouting out a venue for the District Conference during Dennis’ year as District Governor!
We’re sorry that Chief Dan and some of his staff were called away to assist another agency on Thursday and couldn’t be at our meeting! We’ll reschedule the program as we all want to hear what they have to share with us. Thanks, Dan, for all you do for the community!
This week we’ll meet at 5:30pm for pizza and salad for our social at Round Table Pizza. Scheduled to share his “craft talk” is Walt Stickel.
Also coming up is our monthly Board meeting on Monday at 4PM by Zoom. Board members have received the agenda and packet. Members are welcome to attend. Reply to this Rotario email and Robin will send you the Zoom link. We are trying to keep these meetings to an hour and focus on action items rather than reports.
Devastating to hear about the death and destruction on Maui this last week. We hope you’ve considered contributing to the Rotary District 5000 Disaster Fund (see article below and our special notice last week). District 5000 District Governor Mark Merriam is a former colleague of Doug’s in Scouting; Mark says at least 2 of the club presidents on the island lost their homes! We know well how difficult it is and how long it takes to recover (just look at Greenville here in our own District) and our prayers go out to those in need.
Did you know that all the Rotary districts involved in our Far West President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) are working together to bring the 2029 Rotary International Convention to San Francisco? The Convention site selection committee will be in SF in early September. One way we can support the effort is to join our fellow Rotarians at the SF Giants game on Friday, September 8 at Oracle Park. A good showing of Rotarians can’t help but impress the selection committee as we show our numbers and our enthusiasm. See the article below to order tickets.

As you have seen on the news, the situation in Maui is catastrophic - so much devastating, heartbreaking loss, something many in our District, tragically, have experienced firsthand. We know how much each and every gift will help.
Western Nevada County Rotarians are invited to come out to support our Nevada Union Miners Freshman Football Teamon Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Hooper Stadium on the NU Campus. Kickoff is 6:00 PM and tickets at the gate are $7 for adults, $5 for students and children, and $5 for senior citizens. The snack shack will be open with pizza, drinks and snacks and the swag shop will be open where you can get all your new Miner T-shirts, hats and pompoms! Bring the family.

Far West Rotarians are competing against Minneapolis to hold the 2029 Rotary International Convention in San Francisco, and the site selection committee will be at this event to see how ENERGIZED, COMMITTED and FUN we Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors are!
Pumpkins are starting to bulge on the vines! Join us on Tuesday mornings to care for our plants and work on irrigation from 7:30 a.m. (or what time works for you) until about 9:30 a.m. Contact Cathy if you help Tuesdays or OTHER DAYS at BakBraken Acres at 14283 Judy Lane (off Powerline) in Chicago Park.
