We continue to have great fun at our meetings. Miles Adler wowed us with his craft talk at our social on January 16 at Round Table Pizza in Grass Valley. He grew up in Chicago and got to ride his bike to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs. He wore his Cubs gear and showed us the difference between a baseball, a softball and a clinch ball. After playing baseball in high school, he went to college at the University of Illinois and medical school at Northwestern. He specialized in Gastroenterology and spent two years in the Air Force. After a 40-year career in Gastroenterology in the bay area, he retired and moved to Lake Tahoe. Miles and Susi moved to Rough and Ready and he became a Nevada City Rotarian. We are so lucky that Miles chose to join our club. Thank you, Miles!
We are gearing up for our Area 4 Multi-Club grant to collect and repair musical instruments for middle school students. The Rotary Club of GV South is the lead on this project. This week, GV South President, Laura Armacher and her partner, Buckley, are going to the bay area to pick up inventory from a music store in the east bay that has closed. Local Kiwanian, Patrick Donaghey, has arranged this wonderful donation for us. The first collection day will be from 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday, February 8 at Lyman Gilmore. Please contact our Youth Services Committee Chair, Andrea Mason, at andreaemason@protonmail.com if you have questions, instruments you want to donate or to volunteer.
Cathy, Walt, and Robin have shared their wonderfully enriching experiences with the SAEL Elders senior project last Spring. SAEL is looking for more elders for this year’s Building Bridges Across Generations program. You will be paired with a small group of students who are seniors to share your life experiences and perspectives with them. I am looking forward to participating as an elder. If you are interested, click the Building Bridges image for more information. Feel free to talk with the four of us about the program.
Also, in youth services our Area 4 speech contest and Music contests are coming up. Please see links below to the flyers.

Give a gift that truly keeps on giving ~ fostering literacy among Nevada County’s youngest residents!
Nevada City Rotary is proud to launch Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Nevada County in the coming months. “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners.” Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 to foster a love of reading among her county’s young children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month.
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our January 13 meeting is at 5:30pm to better accommodate schedules among our new board. It will be via Zoom with President Louise.
Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
