Greetings members and friends,

Importance of our Foundation Dinner:
Four Nevada City club members are being recognized for their financial contributions to the Foundation. The occasion is also a time to celebrate how all our contributions benefit our clubs thanks partly to District 5190 Grants. This year, our club is sponsoring our Global Scholar for 2023-2024, Wrenn Cleary. Wrenn will present an overview of her forthcoming studies in Water Science, Policy and Management at Oxford University, in the UK, starting in September. Through the scholarship she will receive a global grant of $30,000 for expenses during her program. It’s not too late to RSVP - Wednesday is the last day! Please see the announcement below.

Another new member induction:
This Thursday we will induct Tally Gould as the newest member of our club. She is sponsored by Pearce Boyer and has expressed her enthusiasm to join us. She enjoys our friendly interaction and is looking forward to serving on projects for youth. Her family is welcome to join us again. We’ve enjoyed meeting her husband Colton and her parents Tom and Jenny Crabb.

Our last lunch meeting of the year:
Our speaker this week will be Ray Ward, Past District Governor of District 5180 and now a member of Auburn Gold Country. Ray will be speaking to us on the subject of “Healthy Conversations: The Start of the Solution". Ray grew up in a unique, diverse, and inclusive background. Ray will share what he has learned from his experiences and his perceptions on how to move forward in an environment of distrust. Ray will be discussing how engaging conversation can be used to find solutions. Join us to hear about this important subject! We are back at TJ's Roadhouse so please RSVP.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Carolyn (and Chris)

Growing Pumpkins for Polio

Pumpkin starts are in the ground!

Big thanks to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes and John Drew owner of BakBraken Acres for creating a special partnership so our Club can grow Pumpkins for Polio. Cathy grew the young pumpkin starts this spring. Farmer John, Chris Newsom, Walt and Sandy Stickel, Cathy's grandson Aidan and even little Tuco joined Cathy in Chicago Park digging in the dirt to plant pumpkins on May 30. The pumpkins in the field are currently being hand watered (largely by Farmer John) so we are eager to install irrigation.

Next step: install irrigation lines. We plan to go out on Tuesday morning June 6 and work on irrigation from 7:30 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m. Contact Cathy if you can join her at BakBraken Acres at 14283 Judy Lane (off Powerline) in Chicago Park.
