Thank you to Tom Boxler for his wonderful craft talk along with astute tax advice on Thursday evening. It has been wonderful hearing each other's stories as we build our membership. We have an open meeting on June 20; if there are any takers for a craft talk, please email or talk with me at the Demotion Gathering on Thursday.
I know that we have just ended school for the summer – but there is a need to get backpacks and supplies ready for next school year. If you want to participate in the County’s Backpack Drive, check out the information below. This isn’t a pressure opportunity, just an opportunity to individually support the children of our community with needed items for a successful year. I went online and purchased colored pencils for a group of students; it was easy and cost-effective. Again, this is just an individual opportunity if you would like to help.
Our REGL students from Mt Saint Mary’s are getting signed up and are excited to participate in the leadership program from September 20 to 22. Adult supervision is still needed, especially for adult males—ask Louise for the details.
Cathy and I are shining up the bell to hand over to Louise and her leadership team. They will be having a retreat on June 22 to organize for next year. Cathy and I look forward to the Demotion Gathering at Chris and Bill’s Cement Hill Garden. Thank you for having everyone together for the evening. Several of you told us you are unable to come, and we will miss you greatly. Thank you for all you have done to make this year a wonderful experience for all involved.
With warm summer days ahead we have a unique opportunity for Community Service. Our Community Services Director (Chief Dan Foss) has asked the Rotary Club of Nevada City to help at the Hot Summer Nights Event.
The dates/times are: Wednesday evenings, July 17, 24 and 31, 2024. Rotarians will go out in specially made safety vests, to mingle with the crowds and give information, if asked, on such things as where the bathrooms are, etc. They may be positioned at the main entrances/exits to the event. We will be serving as additional eyes/ears for the Police Department and report back to the PD any problems we may see arising. We will not be handling problems ourselves!
Thank you in advance for being Rotarians in Action! Questions or want to signup the old fashioned way, contact Cathy (2cwb@sbcglobal.net or (530) 263-2496) and she’ll add you to the list.
Once again, Nevada County Child Support Services, in collaboration with Community Beyond Violence, is thrilled to announce our 4th Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive! Last year Nevada City and other Rotarians donated backpacks, supplies and cash to support the Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive. The drive distributed 198 backpacks. This year, their goal is to reach 300 backpacks.
You can help achieve this milestone and have Nevada County students show up for their first day a school proud of their new backpacks and supplies. Contribute in whatever way you want -- donate an empty backpack or one filled with supplies; donate just supplies or make a cash donation. Biggest need is for supplies and cash donations to fill packs on hand by July 15!
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting will be June 10 at 4:00pm via Zoom -- Karen and Cathy's last of the year!
Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
