We had a wonderful demotion gathering for Chris and Carolyn last week – great job Social Committee (Cathy and Judy, and past presidents Tom R. and Dave plus others). Congratulations to Chris and Carolyn who led us through a wonderful year of service, club growth, and FUN! They did such a wonderful job that it is taking three folks to continue their work. Cathy, Doug, and I would like to express how excited we are to be named presidents of this wonderful club.
Our 2023-2024 Rotary International President Gordon McInally stated in an interview, “My vision is that Rotary should exist everywhere in a style to suit everyone who has a desire to be part of us and to help us do good in the world.” We are a club that takes that idea to heart. Last year eight new members joined our club and are looking forward to helping do good in the community and the world. This Saturday we are holding a Patio Patter to bring them up to speed on what our committees’ projects are doing to make that difference in our world.
Cathy, Doug, and I look forward to keeping the excitement and projects moving forward for the betterment of the Nevada City area and the world. Doing good brings smiles to others and to ourselves, it comes from the positive feeling of giving, and the knowledge that we brought Hope to those around us. Borrowing from the themes of RI president Gordon and District Governor Stacy and putting them together - Let’s keep doing good in Nevada City, bringing Hope to the world and do it with Heart. Happy New Year!!
Join us at our first Thursday Social when we present Wrenn Cleary with her Global Scholar grant check!Click for more on Wrenn. And don't forget to bring a backpack and donations for students.
As we launch our new Rotary year, Club members - especially our newer members - are invited to a gathering of friendship and discovery.
Club Service Chairs will be on hand to discuss their committee activities. You will be able to interact with them, have your questions answered, and join committees of your choices and interests!
Bring your backpacks and donations to Thursday's Social! Nevada City Rotary is donating backpacks for local youth through the Backpack Drive! organized by Bright Futures for Youth and Nevada County Child Support Services. The drive ends early July so we are acting fast!
How you can support:
Just purchase a backpack and bring it to the July 6thClub Social. Checks or cash donations are also welcome so Bright Futures for Youth and Child Support Services can purchase the supplies to fill the backpacks. The backpacks and supplies will be distributed to students at the start of the school year.
Let's see how many BACKPACKS we can gather for our local students!
Work day moving to MONDAY JULY 3 due to Holiday! Join us around 7:30am if you can!
On June 26 we spotted our first pumpkin is forming!
Big thanks to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes and John Drew owner of BakBraken Acres for creating a special partnership so our Club can grow Pumpkins for Polio. We plan to continue going on Tuesday mornings (EXCEPT July 4) to care for our plants and work on irrigation from 7:30 a.m. (or what time works for you) until about 9:30 a.m. Contact Cathy if you can join her at BakBraken Acres at 14283 Judy Lane (off Powerline) in Chicago Park.
Nevada City Rotary is proud to support the NEO Youth Center being built in the Litton Building. Participating in the Area 4 District Grant, Club members were eager to participate in hands-on projects related to the new center. BFFY asked if we would construct the heavy cedar pergola planned for the outdoor patio area. So a team of Nevada City Rotarians jumped in. A special thank you to Tom R, Tom M, and Cathy for laboring in the heat to complete the construction and spreading of decomposed granite!
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting will be July 10 at 4:00pm via Zoom.
Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
