Hello Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

I hope that you have all had a happy and safe Fourth of July!  I am so excited to see you this Thursday for our first meeting of Rotary Year 2024-25. Please remember to fill out the Rotary Club Satisfaction Survey that Robin sent to you last week. The survey is anonymous but to reward participation at our meeting on July 11 I will ask you, “Four Way Test:  Did you answer the survey?” Those who say yes will be entered into a drawing for a prize!

Our Board preparing for the year ahead!

In keeping with District 5190, Area 4 tradition I have been visiting the other clubs in our Area to support our new Presidents.  It has been fun to see old friends and make new one in Rotary and throughout the community. It made it easy to remember that although we are five Rotary Clubs, our love of service shines through all of us and we are one community!

On Monday, July 1, I attended the Grass Valley Rotary Club at 12:15 at the Wild Eye Pub. President Sean Jackson introduced our Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick’s theme for the year, “The Magic of Rotary.”  He also proudly introduced our own District Governor Dennis Geare’s them for the year, “Rotarians Make Beautiful Music.” Grass Valley Rotary will be celebrating their 100 Year Anniversary in March of 2025.  I hope you will join me in helping them to celebrate!

On Tuesday, July 2, I attended to Grass Valley South Rotary Club at 7:00 am at the Courtyard Suites in downtown Grass Valley. President Laura Armacher, also rolled out our themes for Rotary Year 2024-25, “The Magic of Rotary” and “Rotarians Make Beautiful Music.” District Governor Dennis Geare was there to induct the new Board of Grass Valley South and Laura Introduced her committee chairs. This year, in order to support the Toy Run in a bigger and better way, Grass Valley South will be leading donations for teens and tweens early before the December crunch. They have a “curated list” by a group of middle school students of things that would be suitable. If you’re a biker, if you like a biker or if you just want to have fun, the Toy Run is scheduled for Saturday, December 14!

Next up I’ll be visiting the 49er Club on Wednesday, July 10. Then they’ll be joining us on Thursday, July 11.  Finally, Penn Valley will roll out the new year on July 16. I forgot how fun it is to visit other clubs. Please think about visiting some of our friends in Rotary yourself in 2024-25!

Don’t forget to RSVP for our meeting on Thursday where we also will be installing our new Board, inducting our newest member, Paula Gleicher Greenstreet, and presenting a Paul Harris Fellowship to one of our members.  See you then!

Your President,

Louise

Backpacks for Students 2024
Last call:  Nevada County Child Support Services, in collaboration with Community Beyond Violence, is sponsoring their 4th Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive! Last year Nevada City and other Rotarians donated backpacks, supplies and cash to support the Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive. The drive distributed 198 backpacks. This year, their goal is to reach 300 backpacks.

You can help achieve this milestone and have Nevada County students show up for their first day a school proud of their new backpacks and supplies. Contribute in whatever way you want -- donate an empty backpack or one filled with supplies; donate just supplies or make a cash donation. Biggest need is for supplies - especially binders and markers - and cash donations to fill packs on hand by July 15!

It’s easy peasy to donate!
