Dear Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

On December 12 at our lunch meeting at Bodhi Hive we got to welcome District 5190 Governor Dennis Geare back to his home club. District 5190 is a geographically vast area with 61 clubs. Dennis presented Lynda Guthrie with her Paul Harris Fellow +8. He also presented Robin Milam with her Paul Harris +4 in appreciation for her efforts in leading our new fundraiser, Paws and a Cause!
Tom Milam received the Quiet Rotarian Award. He’s always there doing whatever is needed from tech support to blowing pine needles off the stage for Paws and a Cause. Tom Ryan was presented the Heartbeat of Rotary Award because he enthusiastically supports all of our activities and completes his duties as Club Treasurer with efficiency and a joyful attitude.

Paula Gleicher Greenstreet was recognized as our newest Rotarian. In a special treat, 49er Rotarian Scott Kellerman attended with Barnabas who is Past President of a Rotary Club in Uganda where the Kellermans have worked for many years. Barnabas expressed gratitude for our club’s involvement in establishing the hospital in his community. Since that time, they have added a nursing school and university. Next steps are a dental and vision clinic.

Dennis’ theme for District 5190 Rotary Year is “Rotarians Make Beautiful Music.” He reminded us of the importance of The Rotary Foundation and how we can support local and international projects through the Annual Fund. Donations to the annual fund are held for three years and then come back to us in the form of district grants. We can donate on-line at The Rotary Foundation or just give a check to our wonderful Foundation Chair, Lynda Guthrie.

Dennis reviewed the Rotary International Plan of Action and described the strategic planning process that the District and clubs may engage in. He reminded us of the Peace Conference in Rohnert Park January 24-26. Jeff and I are signed up to go and you can also sign up at Rotary Peace Conference 2025I am hoping that many of our club will sign up to support Dennis at the District 5190 Conference in Fallon, NV May 2 - 4. Don’t delay, join me right now to sign up here today! Rotary District 5190 Top Gun Conference 2025.

He finished with a heartfelt story about how Rotarians changed his life and Annette’s. He reminded us that each gift of selfless service is a song we sing to the world. What a privilege it is to know Dennis and welcome him home to his home club. He is truly an inspiration.

We’ll have our Annual Club Meeting at our social on December 19 at 5:30 at Round Table Pizza in Grass Valley. We’ll have an update on our progress to our Rotary Internationals goals, a fiscal update and consider a slate of officers for the 25-26 Rotary Year. We’ll be dark on December 26 to continue our holiday celebrations with friends and family. Then we’ll be back on January 2 with our social at 5:30 at Round Table Pizza where we will hear Steven Holt’s craft talk.

And a big thank you to the crew of bellringing Rotarians and spouses who brought good cheer - all be it pretty soggy - to fill the bucket for our local Salvation Army on Saturday.  Even our renegade Rotary Rob showed up to help!

Love and cheer to all!

Your President,

Louise
