As we head into the 2nd week of 2024, it looks like it will be a cold, icy one. Please be careful out there. We don’t want anyone slipping and getting hurt.
We started this year off well with an entertaining and informative Craft talk by Jim Bair at our Social last Thursday evening. Entitled “Being There” he talked about his start and career in computer interfacing and gave examples with many humorous and fortuitous events sprinkled along the way. It has been so rewarding to get to learn a little more about our members through their Craft talks. We have more planned at upcoming Socials.
We look forward to being treated this week to a special presentation from IPDG (Immediate Past District Governor for those of you who aren’t familiar with Rotary Acronyms yet) Jeff Gabriel. Jeff always brings wonderful insights and encouragement in his talks. We know you won’t be disappointed so make sure to RSVP with your lunch choice.
In addition to Jeff’s presentation, we will be inducting two new members. Tom Boxler is transferring to Nevada City Rotary from the Alturas Sunrise Club. We look forward to him sharing his experiences with us from his long Rotary history as well as enticing formerly “top secret” Navy stories. Steven Holt will be a brand-new Rotarian who was introduced to our club by Rotarian Mai Lee. He comes to our club with enthusiasm, marketing experience, and a megawatt smile that lights up the room. Welcome to both Tom and Steven. We are so happy to have you.
We’re hoping to see all of you Thursday, if possible, and in the meantime, enjoy the weather and stay safe.
Join us for our lunch meeting at TJs Roadhouse in Nevada City at Creekside.

Calling all Rotarians - Especially newer members and Rotary leadership!
Rotary Leadership Institute I is coming to Auburn February 24
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is designed to expand Rotary knowledge and leadership skills for Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and potential in club leadership. The program teaches skills that will benefit members in their personal/business lives and in their volunteer service.
Rotary Leadership Institute I session is scheduled for Saturday, February 24, 2024. It will run from 8:30 AM to approximately 3 PM and be held in the 2nd Floor Conference Room at 11641 Blocker Drive in Auburn 95603. Rotary members from Area Four (Nevada City, Grass Valley & Penn Valley) are invited to join Area Five (Auburn) in an engaging day of training and dialogue about Rotary fundamentals and personal leadership. No charge to members — Club covers nominal cost.
To RSVP please contact co-president Cathy or reply to your Rotario email if you want to participate or have questions about the program. Many of us have participated in RLI — it will be a fun day!
Nevada City Rotary Club and Club Rotario Los Barriles Cabo del Este
Invite you to our annual East Cape Health Screening April 10-14, 2024 in Los Barriles, Baja, Mx
Saludos Rotarians,
Please join us in Mexico for our club’s 8th International project in beautiful Los Barriles hosted by Club Rotario Los Barriles Cabo del Este! The town is located about 60 minutes away from the Los Cabos International Airport on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur.
For most of the past 8 years, members of the Nevada City Rotary Club have provided health screenings for hundreds of kids in the East Cape area. Screenings are for glucose levels (to determine possible diabetes), blood pressure, vision, and a much-needed dental exam These screenings are very appreciated and followed up by the East Cape Health Clinic. If it weren’t for all the Rotarians volunteering in this project, some of the children might develop health problems that could go undetected, as many families do not see doctors regularly. Nevada City Rotary has also provided additional life-changing donations of eyeglasses distribution in Los Barriles and outlying areas. See 2023 Los Barriles Slideshow.
We encourage you to make your travel plans soon! For hotels and flight planning information
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month. Our next meeting will be January 8 at 4:00pm via Zoom.
Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
