It was a long weekend - apologies for the revised issue...

Hello Nevada City Rotarians and Friends!

It was all hands on deck as we braved rain and snow for the Upscale Resale Saturday. The event was a testimony to all-club participation from the early stages of planning, logistics, marketing, donating, sorting, pricing, packing, loading, hauling, unloading, setup, selling, buying, reloading, unloading, and finally collapsing. It was a wonderful event and a big THANK YOU goes out to everyone, especially to Carolyn and her crew who pulled this together, even with a successful last-minute change of venue made possible by Louise. Mai’s marketing had people coming to purchase specific items seen on Facebook and Neighborhood groups. Special thanks to Tally and our generous sponsor: First U.S. Community Credit Union. Read our story below for a bigger thank you to all.

This coming meeting we will be treated to a new menu, a new restaurant name (but same location) and in order to emphasize the Plant-Rich diet challenge being promoted by our Environmental Sustainability committee, our menu selections for the meeting reflect a plant-rich diet sampling. Please RSVP with your meal choice today!

I think we can all agree we are living in challenging, complicated times, especially when it comes to how government works, or doesn’t work in some cases. Among those challenges we face is understanding the 25th Amendment and the Electoral College. I know I could use a little brush up on this important facet of our Constitution. And the Electoral College – I mean, who of us really understands the complexities of how it works! Retired Judge Michelle McKay-McCoy, a Rotarian from Walnut Creek, does and she will be our guest speaker, helping us to unravel the complexities. Not only that, but she’s also a great backpacking partner! That’s the teaser to get you to come to the meeting to find out more.

Nevada City Rotary “Upscale Resale” Fundraiser

Rain or Shine this show went on! And rain it did!

And you know what, the rain turned out to be a blessing because it forced/allowed us to change our loading schedule and get set up on Friday at SAEL!

A big thank you to our expanded Upscale Resale Fundraising team - Carolyn, Chris, Louise, Nicole, Cathy, Tom Ryan, Alison, Dan, Walt, Mai, Tally, Lynda, Robin, and EVERYONE! To all who donated and collected items and who rolled with us each step of the way -- And to our generous sponsor Tally and First U.S. Community Credit Union. To Lynn and Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, YubaNet.com, the Union and Kim and KNCO who ran special notices of our last-minute venue change. It took a lot of energy, coordination, and more to pull off! Mother Nature forced a reorganizing scramble moving us from the Ridge Rd parking lot to inside SAEL Academy, but we did it with lots of Nevada City Rotary style and fanfare!

We had over 100 shoppers during our opening hour and the flow continued through the morning. Then just before noon we announced our 50% close out reduction (enjoyed a much-needed pizza boost) and shopping peaked again. With well over 300 shoppers, we sold bikes, kayaks (thank you Alison), jewelry, paintings, collectibles, fine crystal, housewares, bedding, a bit of furniture and so much more! Mai’s Facebook and other media postings, along with the help of others, had people showing up looking for specific items. Preliminary reports show we exceeded our $6,000 sales goal.

Special Thank you's to Chris for your generous use of your home; Peter Newsom who was onsite lifting, hauling, and whatever almost every day, all day since we began!; Tom and Chris for donating the Box truck…we could not have done this without that truck; all who loaned their pickups and SUVs to haul paintings, boxes and more!!!; Others who joined the load/unload/reload, floor support, and more: Tom Milam, Dave Brown, Kelly, Dennis, Miles, Gloria Riley, Pearce, Steven, Collin, Bob Morley, Jim, Gayle, Dave, Stacy, Andrea, Kim, Tally and Colten; Plus Paul, Karen and Bob were out in the rain redirecting traffic from Ridge Road to SAEL before joining us at SAEL; Walt, Cathy, and whomever else covered the area updating and posting signage and of course, all the unknown or forgotten actions taken by so many! Cranking up, regrouping together, enjoying the camaraderie - We are truly Rotarians in Action!

Thank you, Nevada City Rotary, our extended family, and our fabulous community who came out in the rain to shop, support, and have fun with us!
