Healthy Conversations: The Start of the Solution
Jun. 08, 2023 12:15 p.m.
Before Ray became Rotary District 5180 Governor for the year 2019-2020, he realized that he had an interesting and unique background growing up and living in different parts of the US. Due to his background, he has met and become friends with a variety of individuals from different ethnic, religious, and gender backgrounds and was able to get along with them. This program is about what Ray has learned from these experiences and his perceptions of how to move forward in an environment of detest and distrust. Join us as Ray leads a very important discussion on different aspects of conversations and how conversions can be used to find solutions. |

2024 Grass Valley and Nevada City Electricity Provider
Sep. 14, 2023 12:15 p.m.
Gina Stassi Vanacore is the Community Outreach Manager for Pioneer Community Energy. In 2024, Pioneer will become the electricity provider for residents and businesses in Grass Valley and Nevada City. If you live in unincorporated Nevada County, we currently are in discussions with the County to be your energy provider in 2025. Pioneer Community Energy is a locally owned not-for-profit electricity provider — powering unincorporated Placer and El Dorado counties and the incorporated areas of Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Placerville, Rocklin and Loomis with competitive rates, exceptional customer service and a choice of energy options. We operate for the benefit of the communities we serve — not corporate shareholders. We’re excited to meet you and to make your priorities our priorities. With more than two decades of experience working on energy-related issues, she has worked on some of California’s most pressing initiatives, including dam removal at the California/Oregon border; introducing the Western Energy Imbalance Market and regionalizing the California power grid; curtailment and the “Duck Curve;” diversification of renewable energy resources; integration of clean fleet technology; and NEM reform. Gina previously was a Vice President at Porter Novelli/Sacramento, a statewide public affairs firm, where she managed all aspects of strategic planning, research, plan implementation, and evaluation for a variety of clients. She also served as the Media Relations Manager for the California Lottery and spent several years in broadcast and print media while working for Brown Broadcasting Company, a group of West Coast radio stations, and at The Sacramento Bee. Gina earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a Public Relations emphasis, from CSU, Sacramento and graduated with honors.

|
Oct. 24, 2023
October 24 is World Polio DayNevada City Rotary is Growing Pumpkins for Polio. Watch for details for how we plan to sell pumpkins to raise money to End Polio. As World Polio Day approaches, Rotary needs our help to amplify our message about eradicating polio to protect the world’s children from a devastating disease.
But even just one case still represents one child’s life forever changed by polio. That’s why Rotary members must remain tenacious and keep our promise: We won’t stop until we know that no child will ever again experience the paralyzing effects of polio. |

Celebrating Rotarians and Clubs
Nov. 19, 2023 3:00 p.m.
The Area 4 Rotary Foundation recognition event will showcase not only those Rotarians that have contributed to the foundation but also some of the international projects our local clubs have worked on over the last few years, with funding from The Rotary Foundation. Many of our members may be interested in international projects but their clubs might not be aware or interested in investing in this kind of project. Three Rotarians from two clubs will talk about their international projects and attendees can see if they or some in their club might be interested. Joanne Ashford from the Rotary club of Grass Valley South will present their project partnering with Operation Snow Leopard. This international organization helps to facilitate the safe evacuation and resettlement of Afghans allies. Joanne will explain how her club connected with the organizations and the steps they took to help fund their program. Lynda Guthrie of the Rotary Club of Nevada City will discuss her club’s international project to provide menstrual hygiene kits to indigenous girls in Chiapas Mexico. Carolyn Feuille, also of the Rotary club of Nevada City, will discuss their partnership with the Rotary Club of Los Barilles Cabo Este. Since 2015, the Nevada City club has worked on projects with this club that is made up of Mexicans, American and Canadians. This casual afternoon will feature appetizers and provide an opportunity to fellowship with clubs of Area 4, Western Nevada County. Cost is $35 per person. Sign up with your club by November 13. Lake Wildwood Community Center 19088-19092 Wildflower Dr 3:00-6:00pm $35/person includes heavy hors d'oeuvres. Please RSVP to Lynda Guthrie by Friday, November 10. Drive in the second Lake Wildwood gate and the parking lot is just past the park and tennis courts on the right. The second Gate guard will have a list of registered attendees. |
