Part 2 - Stopping Climate Change
Sep. 08, 2022 12:15 p.m.
In July Nevada City Rotary enjoyed our first Movie Night with the film Climate Solutions 101, Part 1. This week we will view the 16 minute Part 2 Stopping Climate Change To achieve drawdown—the point when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start declining—it’s important to understand the sources of emissions and nature’s means of rebalancing the climate system. In this unit: Explore the sources and impacts of greenhouse gases, and zero-in on three critical principles: reducing sources, supporting nature’s “sinks” for storing carbon, and centering equality in global action. |

Nevada County’s “Wildfire Prevention, Emergency Services and Disaster Readiness” Measure V
Sep. 15, 2022 5:30 p.m.
Destructive wildfires have already hit our region hard, and we know that there are likely more to come. With 92% of Nevada County households located in high and very high fire severity zones, residents have asked for community-wide solutions to better protect their families, homes, and businesses. After consulting with first responders, key stakeholders, and concerned citizens, County staff developed a proposal for a locally controlled revenue measure that could fund wildfire prevention, emergency services, disaster readiness, and other critical services. At their August 9, 2022 meeting, the Board of Supervisors voted to place the tax measure on the November 8, 2022 General Election ballot. Measure V now goes to the voters for a decision. About Caleb: Caleb Dardick has been appointed as Nevada County’s Assistant County Executive Officer. Caleb served as Project Administrator in the County Executive Office since September 2019 working on the Board of Supervisor’s priorities including wildfire mitigation, economic development, broadband expansion, and the protection of open spaces and trails. Raised in Nevada County on the San Juan Ridge, Caleb combines his local knowledge with a 27-year career in public service. Prior to joining the County, he was Executive Director for the South Yuba River Citizens League, and before that, Director of Local Government and Community Relations at UC Berkeley. For nearly a decade, Caleb provided public affairs consulting to a broad range of clients in business, government, the nonprofit sector and politics, and earned a reputation for integrity and diplomacy.Caleb is the son of former two-term Nevada County Supervisor and disability rights activist Sam Dardick, who passed away in 2011, and Geeta Dardick, a retired marriage and family therapist; his parents also co-founded FREED in 1983. A graduate of Nevada Union High School, Caleb earned a B.A. in History with honors at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Caleb lives in Nevada City with his wife Carolyn, an executive coach and organizational development consultant. Photo Credit: G Aronow Photography |
