Last week’s presentation by former Nevada City Mayor Steve Cottrell, City Clerk Niel Locke, and Treasurer George Foster was another informative and beneficial program moderated by pP David Kenitzer. Although only a handful of our members can vote in the city initiatives to consider the appointment of City Clerk and Treasurer instead of electing, it was of value to all of us who work in Nevada City or have other interests in the "Queen City of the Northern Mines". It was also good to see our good friend and former member John Merritt as a guest.

PDG Al Frumkin will be our guest speaker this week. Many of us have had the pleasure of hearing Al speak at Assemblies, PETS and District Conferences; now all of our membership will have that opportunity. Al is a dynamic speaker who will undoubtedly be all over the room as he addresses membership recruitment and retention at the club level. Be prepared for an informative, helpful, entertaining, and FUN presentation.

The annual Area 4 Foundation Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, November 6 at the Miners Foundry. Nevada City Rotary is responsible for the event and Club Foundation Chair pP Nancy Kemp with the assistance of pP Ellen Davis have taken on the leadership roles. The speaker will be Dr. Joe Serra, an orthopedic surgeon who has gone to Africa on many occasions to do surgery on the "crawlers". You’ll need to attend to find out what that is all about!

Another date to save is Sunday, October 26 for our Family Oktoberfest. Details will be announced next week.

To pin or not to pin, there is no question…

Club News

Rock Creek BBQ: The Rock Creek BBQ is an annual event that pairs kids from Seven Hills Middle School with handicapped children from Champion Mine School to explore the Rock Creek Nature Trail up Hwy-20. This year's event will be held next Tuesday, October 7th. Volunteers are still needed to help cook and serve food, as is another BBQ grill. If you'd like to attend, please meet at Recreation Realty at 9:30 on Tuesday morning.
Club Visioning: Because of several important scheduling conflicts, the Visioning Session originally scheduled for October 11th is being rescheduled. We will update you again when we have a new date.
Foundation Dinner: The Foundation Dinner is November 6th at the Miners Foundry. Social hour starts at 6:00, and the cost will be around $30 per person. Since Polio Eradication is one of the main goals for the Foundation this year, Dr Joe Serra will be talking about his work with polio victims in Africa.
